Is root canal treatment a painful procedure?
Root canal treatment is performed under local anesthesia and contrary to popular belief, it is not a painful procedure.
It can be completed in one or several visits depending on the history of the tooth. After the decay is cleaned, the structure consisting of vessels, nerves and connective tissue called pulp is removed from the root with special tools. The remaining space in the root is then expanded, cleaned and the healthy roots are filled with special fillings.
After the treatment, the treated teeth should be monitored with dental x-rays at regular intervals.
